Rochester Arts Council Core Values

The work of the board of directors and staff is guided by a set of core values and principles:

 

  • We believe that the arts and cultural activities are central to the sustained vitality of our society.
  • We believe that we have a responsibility to educate and inform the community of the value of the arts through advocacy.  
  • We believe that the arts can bridge racial, cultural, social, economic, religious and generational divides, thereby fostering stronger communities.
  • We believe that the arts are integral to the preservation of our cultural heritage.
  • We believe that access to and participation in the arts for all is paramount and all barriers need to be eliminated.
  • We believe in the value of life-long learning through the arts and the stimulation of creative expression.
  • We believe that artists of all disciplines and cultures, amateur and professional, rural and urban should be nurtured in their creativity and sustained in their work.
  • We believe that the arts have the power to enhance our quality of life and positively impact the economic development of our community.
  • We believe that collaboration and partnerships with arts organizations, artists, businesses, government, educational institutions and donors will support artistic excellence and achievement, further enriching our community.
  • We believe in being responsible and ethical stewards of all resources entrusted to us.
